A new way of finding books you love
November greetings!
I just wanted to tell you about a brilliant new website called shepherd.com which is revolutionising the way you can find the books you love.
The website was set up by an American entrepreneur called Ben Fox who loves to read and became frustrated with trying to find books on websites like Goodreads and Amazon.
Authors talk briefly about their books and then recommend five other books that readers may also enjoy. You can see how it works here to choose a topic or an author and here’s my page on The best children's books about animals, wildlife conservation, and kindness and why human adults are destructive idiots
It’s a simple idea and opens up a whole new world to readers who can find books in their favourite genres or new subjects that aren’t just those heavily promoted by book publishers.
You may know this already but publishers pay to be on the shelves and best sellers in WH Smiths and supermarkets. Waterstones used to do this but stopped a few years ago. This is why you see the dominance of certain celebrity authors like Richard Osman and David Walliams. The publishers pay big bucks to promote them because their names are recognisable.
Anyway, I am no way bitter and twisted (well, only a little bit) but please do visit www.shepherd.com if you’re looking for some books for Christmas presents or for yourself. Please let me know what you think!
