Hello,
I know you’re all super busy before Christmas but I just wanted to say a gigantic thank you to everyone who has helped support and come to see Fleecehold.
Particular thanks goes to the fabulous National Leasehold Campaign ladies Katie, Jo and Cath who have been integral along with the Leasehold Knowledge Partnership and the late Louie Burns in bringing the leasehold scandal to the forefront of politics and media. Every day now there is a story in the news about leaseholders being ripped off via some money-making scam by freeholders and developers and that’s all down to their relentless campaigning
I hoped with Labour being in power there may be no need for campaigning. How naïve am I?! Well, they did promise to abolish leasehold in their first 100 days and then rowed back somewhat to the point of ‘nine consultations will be needed’. Eugh. I can understand the need for some of these on complex areas but parts of LAFRA passed by the last Government just needs to be switched on. I expect Lord Asset-Class is delighted.
It’s worrying that our new Government is cosying up to the developers so much in a bid to meet their housing targets but at what cost? Not one single organisation or person has been prosecuted for Grenfell. Will leasehold reform be the next sacrificial lamb?
There is a lot of noise about Labour not doing enough so far despite the fact they’ve only been in power for a short time. It’s so easy to get swept up in the anger. People stuck in leasehold and cladding scandals have a right to be angry and upset. Let’s hope 2025 brings us some release from the relentless demands for money.
However, until they do, we will continue to raise awareness of the scam to stop people buying leasehold in the first place. So here’s to a 2025 tour up north where the leasehold scandal first broke.
Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Michele xxx
