Folkestone Live starts tomorrow!
If you’re around this weekend and fancy going to see some comedy and theatre then Folkestone Live has 27 different acts to choose from.
The town’s first ever comedy and theatre fringe festival runs from tomorrow, Friday, 12 July to Sunday, 14 July at the Grand Burstin Hotel and Quarterhouse Theatre.
I know, I know, the Grand Burstin is famous for its terrible reviews, not its theatre offering. But the hotel has two amazing venues, cheap beer and a very friendly and welcoming manager who is keen to support comedy and theatre in the town, so what’s not to like?
We’ve all tried hard to get some publicity for the festival but it’s like trying to get blood out of a stone with the exception of the brilliant President of Folkestone Kay McLoughlin, a presenter on Folkestone FM.
Eventually Kent Online did post something they copied straight from the website after I complained three times how rubbish their coverage of the town was. I know only too well, having worked as a reporter on newspapers, that you can’t just cover what people want you to all the time. However, a new comedy and theatre festival is a great news story we would have happily covered in the old days, especially as theatre brings money to local bars and restaurants.
Anyway, enough of this moaning. Here’s an electronic brochure you can browse through if you want to come and support Folkestone Live and ahem…just in case you didn’t know, a revamped Fleecehold the play is on at the Quarterhouse Theatre at 5.20pm on Saturday, 12 July.
We have a fantastic cast and have been busy rehearsing over the few weeks with the tech rehearsal yesterday which went really well.
A word of warning. Charivari is on Saturday and Tontine Street will be closed for a short time from around 2pm to 2.30pm to allow the carnival goers to cross over to the Old High Street. So if you’re planning on driving at that time, make sure you stay in the centre of town for parking.
Hope to see you over the weekend!
