Here are a couple of treats instead of a trick for Halloween
Greetings!
If you’re looking for creepy stories to read or listen to on Halloween then hopefully these two will take your mind off all the doom and gloom in the world for few minutes.
The first is one of my favourite stories called Call Me Mr Moogle about a mouth lump that begins to talk and can be read here. The second is Homecoming Queen which is narrated by the wonderful Louise Burgess and you can listen to it here .
If you like what you read and listen to, then there’s 19 more spooky and weird short stories in my collection Homecoming Queen & Other Twisted Tales. I’ve just dropped the price to £2.99 for the Kindle version for Halloween. If you don’t have a Kindle, you can download the app to your phone. It’s very easy to use and works really well.
It's Halloween every day
Our useless Government would be more comedy than horror if it wasn’t for the harrowing impact of years of austerity with more to come.
Then there’s the recent World Wildlife Foundation’s ironically named Living Planet 2022 Report, revealing that species population numbers have plummeted by 69% on average since 1970 thanks to us idiot humans and today's super depressing news about the world being close to irreversible climate change.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed that we can’t do anything. In terms of getting rid of the Government, I hear there’s a thing called a General Election which can help.
But in terms of what we can do to help wildlife, is there anything we can do apart from signing petitions and writing emails to leaders asking them to please keep to their promises on targets to tackle climate change? It sometimes feels completely pointless when we have the likes of supremo firestarter Bolsonaro in charge of the largest area of the Amazon rainforest (though hopefully he’ll be ousted on the eve of Halloween, please, please, please.)
Instead of being in denial that we’re not the problem and it’s the likes of the Kardashians who need to stop zooming around on their private planes for ten minute journeys, there are small things we can all do that can make more of an impact if we all do them together. Feeling super guilty, I downloaded WWF UK’s app on Google play (available on Apple too) called My Footprint: Climate & Nature. I was pleasantly surprised to see my carbon footprint is well below the UK average. Hoorah.
But my smugness was short-lived when I realised how much larger the average UK carbon footprint is compared to the rest of the world. Give it a go if you can. It’s an interesting app that makes you re-examine your lifestyle and makes you think about the resources we use.
Sweet dreams and Happy Halloween!
