Hello,
I wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who came to see Fleecehold last month at The Quarterhouse Theatre in Folkestone, including my long-suffering family and friends who have seen it several times now. I really do appreciate your support. It was an amazing turnout with some fantastic feedback and a few tears from leaseholders, so thank you.
I can’t believe it’s exactly one year ago that it was Fleecehold’s first night at The Little Angel Theatre in Islington at Camden Fringe too, also my late mum Ida’s birthday. We had sell out shows on three nights which was brilliant and totally unexpected.
We’re now just under two weeks away from our first performance at The Cockpit in Marylebone on Thursday, 22 August to Saturday, 24 August. The Cockpit which has double the capacity of The Little Angel.
As such, I’m doing much nail biting about whether we will get big enough audiences to cover the actor’s fees. Though, to be honest, it was the same last year. Most of the tickets seem to shift in the week leading up to the first performance, so I have everything very firmly crossed.
Please can I ask if you know anyone who is around in London over the Bank Holiday weekend, or anyone who lives in a leasehold flat or house, or anyone who is thinking of buying one, then please let them know about the play and share this blog with them.
One audience member gave me some feedback recently, several weeks after watching Fleecehold at The Quarterhouse, which just about sums up the experience of many people who don’t know much about leasehold: “I keep thinking about Fleecehold because I had no idea leasehold was such a nightmare for people. In fact, I didn’t really know anything about it at all. I can’t believe such an unjust and greedy system exists in England and Wales in 21st century. Everyone should see this play.”
I’ll leave it to actor Alexander Halsall who plays the Earl of Clare and legendary leasehold reformer Louie Burns to persuade you or any friends or acquaintances to come along! Thank you.
Fleecehold is at The Cockpit Theatre as part of Camden Fringe from 22-24 August. The theatre is a 10 minute walk from Marylebone tube and main line station and Edgware Road Stations.
