Happy Thursday everyone!
I’m very excited to reveal the book cover for The Macaw of Doom, book two in The Missing Fur series.
The cover is illustrated by the very talented Lisa Supple who I first met many, many years ago at Long Crendon Primary School, when we were about eight or nine years old. Lisa also illustrated the beautiful cover for The Mystery of the Missing Fur.
The Macaw of Doom sees Bernard's long-lost cousin Ytsan turn up with a beautiful macaw called Duke and a very smart African Grey parrot named Jesse. However, is Ytsan more of a cuckoo than cousin? Ytsan begins to turn Bernard against his best friend Larold and she embarks on a race against time to uncover the truth with the help of monkeys Emile, Zola and Titus, giant anteater Armando and his super-furred cat companion Loki. But is it too late? Will the Wildlife Hero of the Year be stripped of his title forever?
The series is partly inspired by my time living in Brazil teaching English and two trips down the Amazon and to the Pantanal where in no particular order I met a hideous bird egg smuggler, trod on a giant snake before it slithered away underfoot (phew), got pooed on by a monkey, had my plastic bag (see above) containing my camera snatched by a monkey, chased said monkey through the forest and grabbed it back, fell in love with a giant anteater called Cato (it didn’t lead anywhere), saw beautiful captive and free macaws and many other wonderful creatures.
The books, themed on wildlife conservation, can be read individually or as a series and are aimed at children aged from 8-12, although many older readers have enjoyed them too.
The Macaw of Doom is published on May 31 on World Parrot Day and I hope it will go a little way to highlight the trade in illegal bird egg trafficking which is decimating the great talkers and mimics like the African Grey and the gorgeous macaws of South America. I’ll be writing more about the illegal trade in my next post.
Until then, The Macaw of Doom is available for pre-orders at Amazon and Waterstones.
Have a great weekend and thank you for reading!
Superb! What a vibrant cover invite:-) Well done and we are looking forward to the launch of the book.
Wow, well done Michelle and Lisa.
