There’s just one week until our first performance of Fleecehold.
The dark political comedy, with elements of panto thrown in, follows the true story of the three founders of the National Leasehold Campaign who took on developers and freeholders to fight for leasehold reform after being mis-sold their homes.
Thank you to everyone who has bought tickets to come and see the play in Folkestone and London’s Little Angel Theatre in August for the Camden Fringe - it’s very heartening to get your support and I hope you enjoy booing and hissing at the baddies.
The play has been a bit touch and go over the last two weeks mostly because my partner Graham had a heart attack a couple of weekends ago. Luckily he was round the corner from the hospital, so they took him in super quick, removed an embolism and put in a stent. In times where you hear nothing but bad news about the state of the NHS, thanks to years of underfunding, here’s a happy story where the doctors and nurses do what they do best in an emergency. He’s now recovering at home and hopes to be back to work soon.
Although nothing compared to Graham having a heart attack, a few days before this one of the actors decided to pull out from the play an hour and a half prior to our rehearsal. Eternal thanks to Tim Knightly who stepped into the roles of the charming Lord Asset Class and an even more charming developer a day or two later, as well as Giles Croft for watching a rehearsal and making some great staging suggestions.
Big sigh of relief until Covid hit our lead lady Lucy Thompson aka Lucille Ferguson aka Mother Christmas at the beginning of this week. Poor Lucy has been battling a very bad case as well as looking after her one-year-old daughter Daisy. Fingers crossed she makes a speedy recovery.
But as the saying goes, the show must go on. We have our props, sound and our backdrop graphic sorted, thanks to Jane Sutton for the latter and, of course, a wonderful cast.
If you’d like to come and see the play, we’d love to see you at The Green Room, The Grand, The Leas, Folkestone next weekend.
On Friday, July 7 tickets are discounted for the dress rehearsal and on Saturday, July 8 we were invited to take part in a National Day of Action on Housing to highlight the housing crisis with a Q&A with very special guests Katie Kendrick, Jo Darbyshire and Cath Williams, founders of the National Leasehold Campaign.
Thank you for reading!
